The gift of being a mother is a job full of love, fun, and joy. However, it can also be challenging, frightening and overwhelming. There is a Christian organization which is just for mom’s to help mom’s live the life of love, fun and joy in raising their children. For moms of preschoolers, this organization is called MOPS – Mothers of Preschoolers
MOPS International was started in Wheat Ridge Colorado in 1973 with a group of moms who met together for two hours while someone took care of their kids. They had time to eat, share, worship and support one another. During this time their children were provided care by friends and family. In 1981, MOPS became an official organization with a Board of Directors and began to spread across the United States. The ministry has evolved now into an international ministry when expansion overseas took place in 1988! Some MOPS groups meet once a week, some once a month. But still, they focus on quality care for children, including fun activities, while the moms get to visit, reconnect and refresh themselves in God’s word. The organization also has newsletters and parenting help and resources for parents and children alike.
MOPS helps moms with conventions, leadership training and many other tools in addition to the local groups. Local groups organize themselves differently, with ongoing flexibility for stay at home moms as well as working moms. The focus is always supporting the moms as well as a gentle focus on Christ in their life. Most groups are low cost at less than $50 per year to join the group and enjoy all the activities.
